Tour details
These private trails offer one or two track tours that begin in the 1968 National Park, on the slopes of the Arenal Volcano. This 12km trail offers a variety of terrain to keep everyone excited and get your adrenaline pumping! Short slopes, cruising descents, some technical descents and curves.
This trail will take you through farmland, deep rainforest, rivers, and mud road. Along the journey, you will be able to tour part of the lava flow from the 1968 eruption, even see some craters and giant rock remains that flew from the volcano! Howler monkeys, toucans, coatis and egrets can come to greet us on the trip.
Enjoy incredible views of the volcano throughout the trip. (If time allows it). Mountain bikers’ favorite tour.

This is not for beginners, but was a great tour. My husband went on a mountain bike tour with Andy, who picked him up promptly at Nayara as arranged. My husband is just getting into mountain biking and thought this would be a good way to level up. This ride was intense! He definitely felt a bit out of his element and was challenged - a lot. The trails were quite muddy, which is not something he wa
s used to riding as most places back home don't allow mud riding. Lots of elevation gain/loss, very challenging. My husband joked that he ended up walking a lot on the uphill and braking a lot on the downhill. Since it was just Andy and my husband, Andy was very accommodating and understanding of my husband's limitations. Snacks and water were provided in the end. Andy was a good guide, spoke great English, and seems to really love biking. For mountain bike enthusiasts, I would recommend riding with Bike Arenal and Andy!...

The 1968 Single and Double Track Bike Tour was an amazing, well maintained trail! It took us into the jungle up and down steep ascents and descents. It felt like we were in the thick of it, with luscious vegetation in every direction.
But they aren't joking when they rank the difficulty as hard. Parts of the trail were too difficult for my family and I (with children ages 10 & 1 1). My kids are experienced trail riders, but this trail was tougher than what we've been on in Ohio. We all fell a few times. There were steep ascents and descents which required us to walk our bikes for chunks of the trail. We even rode across rivers that were knee deep during the dry season.
If you are a seasoned trail rider, you'll really appreciate it. But if I were to take my kids on another ride, I would opt for their 'Arenal Volcano to El Castillo - Half Day Mountain Bike Tour' instead, as it would have been less aggressive and we would have left with less bruises and dry shoes :).
But our guide was awesome. He was so patient with us, always lending a hand to help us get our bikes through tough areas and over (and around) downed trees. He never left us behind and was always 100% positive and motivating. He even had lots of snacks, juice, and beer at the end, making the victory that much sweeter! The bikes and helmets were top quality and they even had a full, ice cold water bottle for us mounted on each bike.
We definitely had a memorable experience and I am glad we didn't back down from this adventure.... (Read more)

The ride went really well. Our guide was excellent, and the ride was a good intermediate ride in a beautiful place.

This was the best mountain biking company ever! The instructors and the course are legit. We asked for the technical route and they gave it to us! It was a tiny bit above our skill level but I really appreciated them letting us try. Many of our other tours had a boring overly safe route (atv tour) and left me unsatisfied and misled by the description/pictures. This tour was exactly as advertised.
The instructor was so patient with us and the views were beautiful!!...
