Itinerary

  • Duration: 8 Days / 7 Nights
  • Starts in: San Jose | Ends in: San Jose
  • Visiting: 1

Day 1
Arrival to San Jose

Your guide will greet you at the airport and drive you to our hotel in the beautiful Orosi Valley. Here we'll fit bikes, have a safety talk, and enjoy a traditional Costa Rican casado dinner.

Meals: Dinner
Day 2
Bicycling the Reventazon Valley

Our bike ride this morning starts right outside the hotel, and follows the scenic Orosi and Reventazon River valleys as they wind through coffee, sugar, and palm plantations to the village of Atirro. From here we'll shuttle a few minutes to our hotel for the evening with a view of Angostura Lake and the valley of Turrialba.
Biking distance: 49 km (30 miles)

Meals: Breakfast
Day 3
Rafting the Pacuare River

After a short shuttle to the Pacuare River, we will enjoy a day of white water rafting. The Pacuare features some of the best rafting in Latin America and a project to build a hydroelectric dam on this river was recently rejected by the environmental authorities of Costa Rica based on lack of information about the project's social and environmental impact. Throughout the day we'll see stunning scenery as the river winds its way through deep canyons and primordial rainforest. Professional guides with years of experience on the river pilot each raft. We stop to enjoy a picnic lunch in these beautiful surroundings. Following our trip, we'll shuttle on to Sarapiqui where our hotel is located near La Tirimbina Rainforest Reserve.
Rafting distance: 27 km (17 miles).

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch
Day 4
Guided Rainforest Hike

The rainforest preserves in Sarapiqui protect some of the last remaining low and mid-elevation tropical forests in Central America. Today at La Tirimbina Reserve, you can choose a short hike or a longer hike guided by a local naturalist. After the hike we’ll have lunch and then shuttle to the village of La Fortuna, which lies just east of the Arenal Volcano.
Walking time: 2 - 4 hours, your choice.

Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner
Day 5
Biking near Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal

This morning we have the option of doing the Zip Lines Canopy Tour. Later Arenal Volcano dominates our ride - and what a sight! As you approach Lake Arenal, keep your eyes and ears open for the playful sounds of howler monkeys and the comic antics of coatimundi, as well as other wildlife that call the lake home. At our hotel this afternoon, we'll enjoy views back to the lake and the volcano in the distance.
Distance: 38 or 55km (24 - 34 miles) your choice.

Meals: Breakfast
Day 6
Canoeing & Snorkeling on the Pacific Coast

Today we shuttle to the Central Pacific Coast where we’ll take outrigger canoes for an afternoon of paddling and snorkeling. Each canoe holds 5-7 people plus a guide, so you don't have to do all of the work. We'll paddle 25 minutes to a small beach further down the coast where we'll stop to eat fresh fruit, rest, swim, and snorkel before paddling back to the starting point. In the late afternoon we arrive to Esterillos where you can relax by the pool or take a walk on the almost endless beach.

Meals: Breakfast
Day 7
Hiking in Manuel Antonio National Park

The last day of our Costa Rica adventure takes us to nearby Carara National Park for a guided hike in the forest plus some relaxing time on the beach. We'll celebrate the end of our journey with a final dinner together at the seaside restaurant in Esterillos.

Meals: Breakfast / Dinner
Day 8
Morning transfer back to San Jose

After breakfast together, we’ll drive 2 hours back to San José and the International Airport for those needing to get home. Pura Vida!
