Bike Arenal's first Limited Edition Biking Jersey shows a scene of coffee harvesting and export in the late 1800’s, copied from a painting in the interior of the National Theater of San José, Costa Rica.
Inaugurated on October 21st, 1897, the National Theater is a historic landmark and one of the country’s most important architectural pieces. Its construction was financed by prosperous coffee farmers who solicited the Government to impose a tax on coffee exportations.
The original canvas was painted in Italy and brought to Costa Rica in 1897, as were many of the other paintings and sculptures decorating the Theater.
This image also appeared on the back of our 5 colones note (shown here). Now out of circulation, this bank note is appreciated as one of the most beautiful in the world.
"Protecting Them" logo on the sleeve of our bike jersey shows our support to the "Code of Conduct for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation in Travel and Tourism".
